Stay safe from phone scams
We're hearing from an increasing number of members who are receiving fraudulent calls from scammers pretending to call from Veridian's fraud department, Amazon or another large retailer. This is a common form of fraud called phishing. To keep yourself and your accounts safe, it's a good idea to refresh yourself on how to recognize and respond to phishing calls.
Phishing is often used to coerce a person into sharing their sensitive information with the caller by demonstrating that they already know other sensitive information about you.
The phisher may have gathered that information about you in any number of ways, including but not limited to dumpster-diving for sensitive documents, hacking a retail merchant's system and more.
Phishers reach out to consumers pretending to be a representative of their financial institution or other organization so they can convince you to provide more information that will give them access to your accounts. The call may even be spoofed to display the phone number of the organization the scammer claims to represent.
Veridian will never reach out to you and ask for your account number, PIN, online banking credentials or full debit or credit card numbers. Never share this information, or any other identifying information over the phone, text or email.
Veridian will never tell you to respond "no" to a fraud alert if you didn't make the purchase. Who would? Someone trying to defraud you.
If you ever question the legitimacy of a call, hang up and call Veridian directly at (800) 235-3228. Don't redial the number from the incoming call.
Please know that we've found no evidence of an information breach at Veridian, and we believe any information phishers may already know about you was obtained externally.
Reporting fraud
If you believe you've been a target or victim of identity theft or fraud, call Veridian immediately to report it. You can also file a report with the Federal Trade Commission.
