The holiday season and the end of the year will be here before you know it. Right now is a great time to plan for the holidays and the year ahead.

Many cultures have big celebrations near the end of the year, and you may have plans to participate in some or all of them. Those expenses aren't usually built into budgets and spending plans, so take some time now to consider how much you're going to spend and where you'll find that money.

In the last year, prices have risen on almost everything. While this may not change your plans, it’s a good idea to re-evaluate your spending. It’s important to adjust your plan when needed.

This is also a good time to start thinking about your year. You can look back over your spending for the year so far and see where you're consistently over budget or under budget, which will help you make adjustments for the future.

Budgeting tools, like an app or spreadsheet, can help you track your spending. Your financial institution may have free resources you can use. For example, Veridian provides a Financial Wellness Tracker for free in online banking. It automatically tracks your spending, lets you set savings goals and has a survey you can take to evaluate your financial position.

No matter what tools you use, don't let the holidays distract you from your financial goals. Come up with a plan now to stay on budget while enjoying time with family and friends and start thinking about your upcoming year.
